Research Experience for Undergraduates

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the National Science Foundation. REU projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program.

Mote Marine Laboratory has been a host site for the National Science Foundation since 2003. The Mote REU Program offers paid research training experiences in estuarine science to 10 undergraduate students during a 10-week period between late May and early August. REU participants are paired with Mote scientists and conduct mentored research projects related to their advisor's expertise. Participants attend research seminars and workshops on career skills in science. Students may also have the opportunity to present their research findings at professional conferences. Students gain experience in science communication by presenting the results of their project at a laboratory-wide research symposium.
