Abstract: This is the second of eight field journals by Dr. Charles M. Breder Jr. written during his fieldwork in Florida from 1958 to 1974. The journal spans the period of May 1959 through November 1960 and details Breder’s “patrols” (experimental observations) attempting to establish a statistical measure of small “black fish” fry. Breder used “black confetti” (black paper of various shapes) on the fish fry to observe if the fish could be induced to turn black. Also noted was if black fish showed up in greater abundance than other fish. Additionally, the content includes descriptions of Breder’s day to day activities, expenses, and visitors to his home in Manasota Key, Englewood.
